What is Outerlibrary Loan (OLL)?
Outerlibrary Loan is a free service that allows you to check out books or other materials that our library system doesn't own. If you're searching for an item that you can't find in LinkCat, you can submit and Outerlibrary Loan Request. We will try to find the item for you by searching public and academic libraries throughout the country.
How long does it take to get material this way?
Most OLL items take 3-4 weeks to arrive from the date that you request the item, although sometimes it is quicker (or longer) if the item is coming from very close to us, or from very far away.
How will I know my item has arrived?
We will call or email you to let you know that your item is ready to be picked up.
How long can I keep these materials?
Unfortunately, checkout times for OLL items vary greatly and are not predictable, as the lending period is determined by the item's owning library (not RGPL).
How do I place a request?
You may place OLL requests in-person, over the phone, or by email (send requests to kmckewin [at] rgpl.org). When possible, please provide as much information as you can about items you are looking for (title, author, specific editions, specific articles in magazines, etc.). We're also happy help you find this information if you need assistance.
Where can I return my OLL items?
OLL items checked out at RGPL must be returned to our library.
Is there anything else I should know about OLL's?
We cannot place OLL requests for new or upcoming releases—all titles have to have been published at least 6 months ago. We also cannot place requests for OLL items if there are more than $20 in fees currently owed on your library card.
